“MOTOWN PHILLY BACK AGAIN” - BOYZ II MEN SOLD OUT SHOW The Met Philly
February 21, 2024Everyone was dressed to impress and the outfits definitely paid homage to Philadelphia icons - BOYZ II MEN who took the stage at The Met Philly on Saturday, February 17, 2024 to serenade and party with fans who traveled from near and far to see them that night. The 15 song set-list had a little something for everyone and fans old and new. And if it’s your first time seeing the Motown Philly legends on stage, you were in for a treat as they danced, harmonized, told stories, got nostalgic and showered fans front row with single red roses. What did not surprise me was that they learned to play the bass and guitar and went on to new ventures. And that their children are just as talented as they are. Everyone cheered and applauded and sang along and as for me – I embraced the nostalgia and just took it all in. Appreciating that these men are still out here making music and creating lasting memories for fans for years to come.

Back to ‘94
Nowadays, it is hard to imagine where you had to sit by a radio with a cassette tape in the deck ready to record a song off of the radio. I listened to the local radio stations (B101 and Q102 respectively) that I had grown accustomed to the radio cycle. I was familiar with what songs would come on and would get giddy when I was right by the radio when the DJ announced “On Bended Knee” that I would aggressively hit the record button. (Which I would often get that jammed due to my excitement.) The 1994 album of II was an essential part of my daily life and what lead me to want to join a choir and later pick a camera up. I enjoyed all aspects of the stage and when they did a duet with Mariah Carey for One Sweet Day. My two worlds collided. Those songs and many others would be essential tracks to the soundtrack of my life. “A Song for Mama” would play in the background of a YouTube video I made to show off to my parents. Proud of my video editing skills. It was the early 2000’s.
Fast forward to 2024 and I am standing amongst a sold out crowd hearing some of my favorite songs live for the first time. It was a moment I would cherish and one that I couldn’t wait to share with you all. Whoever said that music and the arts was not an essential part of society have never been touched by an artist like Boyz II Men. They cross generational era’s and gave us all common ground on something as amazing as their 30+ year catalog.
